I’m sure you have looked at a million Halloween pictures on Facebook by now. You have seen everyone else’s little trick-or-treaters dressed up and I shouldn’t force you to look at mine too. So, I thought I would catch your attention with my Halloween confession: I never got around to carving our pumpkin this year. I should say I never organized the event of pumpkin carving where my husband wrinkles his forehead with a big knife and pumpkin trying to figure out what to do with his many little helpers gathered around (I bake frozen pizzas in the kitchen). One of my friends said she didn’t carve her pumpkin either so I am feeling a little better but still guilty. We actually got a pumpkin but it was not from the pumpkin patch where so many cute pictures should have happened. It was from the store on the day before Halloween (1/2 off I might add!). My oldest son is the only one who ever inquired about a pumpkin and I just told him “you don’t have to carve it EVERY year” and he didn’t push the issue too much. I WILL do better next year. I hope.
To help make up for my holiday-slackness, I made the above Crescent Mummy Hot Dogs for Halloween lunch. You may have seen them many times so not exactly creative or new. But, I thought it was good for me to attempt anything in the kitchen. Bravo to me! In case you wondered, only one child ate one, another took a bite and spit it out. My kids aren’t adventurous eaters so thank goodness for my husband who is. I hope he enjoyed the five he had to eat.
Now that my bad-Mom confession is over, you have to endure my Halloween pictures after all. TRICK-or treat!

This is just a little preview of my Halloween and the momentous occasion when Kate let me put pigtails in her hair. Her friend, Paige, wore them to school and suddenly they are okay to have. I also convinced her they were part of her costume. We went trunk-or-treating at church and I so didn’t feel like going out in the dreary weather. There was no way I could disappoint the little girl that had been super-excited about it all day long, though. So I powered through it and got a few Reese’s cups out of the deal. I didn’t buy costumes for any of my kids. They had to use whatever they could find in the house (it is Mommy’s busy season, boys!). Oh, and yes we do have many butterfly wings in our house to choose from so no problem there (unless you are one of my boys). If you meet her on Halloween night, she is a “Pink Butterfly” just so there isn’t any confusion. People kept calling her a “fairy” and it made her bottom lip stick out more than I would have liked. More photos of her hodge-podge costume to come. I might need to teach her who Pippi Longstocking is. Pippi in wings might be a better idea.

I love to see parents with young children laugh. This family has no choice but to find some humor with sudden life changes moving them and adding a new baby to the family at the same time. I hope all is settled for them so they can relax and enjoy the holiday season. What better time of year to enjoy children? It is fun to see everything through their eyes and feel the excitement. I can’t think of a better gift than this little 3 month old baby!
I guess it is because I survived it myself with my boys, but I am so entertained by 2 year old big brothers and sisters and the way they interact with their new siblings. They don’t usually care to have much to do with them (especially have a photo made with them). They treat them a little bit like rag dolls when everyone else is so careful with the baby. When my oldest was two he once used his 3 month old brother as a step stool when I left the room. He also threw cups of cold water on him while he was sleeping in his crib. <big sigh> The second child has to roll with the punches a lot more often. Most of the time my baby took whatever punishment was handed to him without crying. He was so thankful to have attention from his most favorite person.
Thankfully little Palmer was a great big sister this day and did whatever we asked her…with only a few bribes.
I can guarantee she will be her little brother’s most favorite person. She is such a smart girl – there is a lot she is going to teach him.
Can you tell I totally have Christmas on my mind (and 3 month olds)? It must be all of these Christmas cards around me. I’m ready to get rid of these pumpkins and put up a Christmas Tree.

Fa la la la la! I have been getting in the Christmas Spirit early helping clients choose their Holiday Cards. This is just a sampling of what you can choose from. There is something for everyone! I’m sure I am biased, but I absolutely love these Christmas Cards. They are so beautiful on art linen paper and envelopes are included. I’m going to have a hard time choosing my own.
Deadline Info: For previous sessions, my cutoff to order Christmas cards is November 5th. Email me if you would like to see the rest of the cards I have to offer or need more information.
If you still need a photo session for your family this year, my cut-off is November 8th. I know of at least one opening I have so contact me soon if you are interested.
Have a Holly Jolly…Halloween!

Apple Picking for a one year old…or should we say apple throwing? An apple might as well be a ball, right? This little guy is adorable. He never did take a good bite out of his apple. I think he licked it pretty good, though!
Happy Fall, Y’all!
Apple Picking Area in Atlanta and Georgia. Don’t forget your camera!

Beautiful Julianna has reached a milestone in her little life. She is sitting up! This is such a wonderful time to capture babies. They can sit and smile at you and not go too far. I love the way they can get so fascinated with their toes (when they are bored of me). Julianna is like most babies her age the way she is happy for me to hold her but will stretch her neck far to follow where Mom is going. I love this little one. She reminds me of my own babies so much. I thought it would have been more fun to squeeze her than take her picture. She is just too huggable! We got lots of good pictures to mark her NOW despite wanting to put the camera down and eat her neck.

It is Tuesday night so I hope you are making your way to McCray’s Tavern for Kid’s Night. We love living close to West Village and how could we not walk over in this beautiful October weather? These pictures were after the last trip we made to Kid’s Night. My friend Holly is up there most Tuesdays and painted my kid’s faces (the oldest one is too cool). Luckily she is very quick so they didn’t have to sit still long!
You might want to know that bottles of wine are half price and you can take it home if you don’t finish it. It is an especially fun Mommy night if Dads are away and you are tired of PB&J. The kid’s buffet has plenty to choose from for even the pickiest kids. Hope to see you there!

I know someone will be so happy to get this little beauty soon. This is my 6×6 mini-album with 20 images. It is the same as the larger ones I offer but in a smaller size and with a black leatherette cover. It is great for grandparents or just as a keepsake for yourself. I hope you can tell from this picture how thick the pages are. Your children won’t hurt this as they look through these sturdy pages. My most favorite part of all of my albums is that you can display them on an easel. You can turn the pages to change the look of your display at any given time. You can choose black or white backgrounds and each image has a small border. This one has a lovely blue and green one that coordinates with the colors in each image. I especially love this book for newborns as it fits so nicely on a nursery shelf and can be shared with others so easily.
I’ll be packing this one up for delivery now. I know this family will enjoy it for many years to come!

What to wear, what to wear? I have our family’s photo session this week and I think I know what we will all wear. I love browns and oranges but we have a lot of red accents in our family room so I thought I would go in that direction. Sometimes it is helpful to think about where you are going to display your new images and that can help you. We are a very conservative but laid-back group and I really can’t imagine getting away with dressing any of my guys in anything but polo shirts and jeans. That is just SO us if you know what I mean. Us not in jeans wouldn’t seem natural! I feel like I am dressing up and doing something special by not wearing t-shirts (or Crocs). I think blue jeans (and khakis) are an easy backdrop to all the other colors and patterns you can wear. I love seeing different textures and patterns but try to stick to 2-3 colors for your overall look. Matchy-matchy is not necessarily the best thing so try to blend well instead.
Now, more about my session! I will finally be on the other side of the lens for a change. I know how stressful it can be (and work) for my clients to have a session scheduled. It is funny that I am a little worried too even though I know better and totally trust our amazing photographer.
I’m happy that I will finally get to be in some of our family pictures but not so happy that I didn’t lose 15 lbs first and wouldn’t you know it, I think I have a zit coming. No problem, we can hopefully Photoshop that. Not so easy with my sons’ bad haircuts. The youngest one spent the night with a friend and the two of them gave each other haircuts. It is pretty bad. I took all three of my children to get haircuts and the oldest one’s can only be blamed on the lady that whacked him in all of 1.5 minutes. I told her it was uneven and she said “that” was a cowlick. Funny how he developed one after 8 years. Not going to stress about that (much). So if we can get make it without Kate falling and getting a big bruise on her face we will be in good shape.
I have decided to focus on what I want my clients to think of. This will be a precious memory not only for me but also for my children one day. It will be Us right here and now in 2010 – bad haircuts, zit and all. What I wouldn’t do to have something like this with my Mom & Dad when I was a kid. I know I wouldn’t care about their 15 lbs or blemishes. No better time than the present because my husband and I are only going to get older and uglier, right!
So, might as well go for it! Hopefully one day when we are old we can look back and laugh about Alex’s bad haircut.
Hopefully.

I love Fall. Atlanta in October is one of my favorite times of year. Even though it might be the month I work the most and my allergies are the worst, I still love it. The leaves on my Maple tree are starting to turn and when my little boy went outside for lunch on the deck he asked if he could get a jacket. The weather is absolutely perfect so we eat outside a lot and have more trips to the park. I remember a gazillion years ago making it through my first (miserably hot) summer in Atlanta to realize by Fall that I loved it here and never wanted to leave. So many things to love… And, I LOVE college football game days. I guess you know which team is mine now? Yes, I am an Auburn girl and that is probably something important for you to know about me.
Happy Fall & War Eagle!
